Types of Acupuncture

Needling / Traditional
Acupuncture: Thin needles are inserted in the skin to
different depth and left in place for different amounts of time.
Electroacupuncture is when electric current is applied to the needles. - Press Needles / Staplepuncture:
Short needles are taped down and left in place for longer periods of
time. Pressure is applied on a regular basis.
- Acupressure: Rather
than using needles, beads are massaged at certain locations.
- Moxibustion: Small
pellets of combustible material are placed at acupoints and ignited
- Cupping: Cups that
create a vacuum are places at various points.
- Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve
Stimulation (TENS): Electrodes are placed on the skin and
apply a mild electrical current.
