Cascara
Cascara bark (Rhamnus purshiana)
is a stimulant laxative and causes the intestines to increase their
motility. Chemicals called anthroglycosides in the bark are
responsible for these effects.
This supplement has
not
been studied for weight loss.
Side
effects of cascara bark include loss of potassium, electrolyte
imbalances, interactions
with other medicines, and decreased absorption of medicines including
vitamin K. It should not be taken by people with bowel obstruction,
diarrhea, or dehydration.
It is
important you discuss any weight loss or exercise plan with your
doctor.
Only you and your physician can decide what is best for you. Some
people have certain conditions that prevent them from doing all
exercises, and goal body weights may be different for different people.
You need to discuss all these things with your physician before
starting any weight loss or exercise program. This article was

Vickery, MD.
